My children have been asking and asking me to teach them to speak Spanish. We have dabbled a little on YouTube, and searched the internet for opportunities to learn a new language, but it seemed to be more of a few and far between lesson plan.
You can imagine the excitement when Song School Spanish, (which is put out by Classical Academic Press), arrived in the mail! The CD was popped in, and almost immediately, my home became filled with the sounds of children singing – in Spanish!
Songs are always one of the top ways to get something memorized. We love to sing our school work around here! Song School Spanish quickly became one of our favorite curriculums!
As a member of the TOS Crew, I was excited to be given the opportunity to review Song School Spanish! It is a simple, yet powerful teaching tool. Although everyone in the house has benefited from the CD blaring out songs in Spanish everyday, only two of my children worked through the workbook. The lessons are simple enough for your children to works through them on their own, and substantial enough to stick with them.
I love that the lessons are quick and easy. They aren’t overwhelming, and are just right for memorization, which of course, is so easy due to the fact that it’s all set to music.
There are 31 chapters in the student’s text. These chapters cover the basic words and phrases that will enable your students to start communicating in Spanish. They will learn greeting words, how to make friends, the alphabet, numbers, manners, weather, seasons, food, vocabulary for body parts, and much, much more.
Each chapter includes between four to six new vocabulary words to learn. The text gives the pronunciation of each word, and the CD lets you hear how it is supposed to sound.
The workbook helps your students to practice writing these new words, by having them dotted out for tracing. There are, also, plenty of fill-n-the-blank type questions to help review and know that your students are understanding each lesson.
There is always something fun included in each chapter; like having a puppet show, drawing pictures, and of course, singing the songs that coincide with each lesson.
Half of the Teacher’s Edition includes the entire Song School Spanish student text, answer keys, and additional teacher’s notes.
The second half of the teacher’s edition is filled with extra curricula! I love this part! There are crossword puzzles, worksheets, games, and plenty of activities.
If you are looking for an easy to use Spanish program that brings quick and lasting results, then I would definitely recommend Song School Spanish! My children absolutely LOVE it!
Throughout my twenty years of homeschooling, I have priced Spanish program after Spanish program, and I can tell you, this program is available at a remarkable price! And believe me, it is worth every penny!
Both the student text and the teacher’s guide are priced at $24.95 each.
